Abstract
Background: Cervical cancer ranks second as the most common cancer suffered by women. Ulin Hospital shows an increase in cases of Cervical Cancer patients treated in the last three years. The most common complaint felt by sufferers is pain. Lemon aromatherapy can be an alternative to non-pharmacological therapy to overcome pain complaints. The limeone content in Lemon works to inhibit prostaglandins so that it can reduce pain.
Purpose: To determine the effect of lemon aromatherapy on the pain scale of patients with cervical cancer.
Method: The method used in this study is Quasi Experiment with NonEquivalent Control Group design and sampling technique using purposive sampling technique. The data collection instrument uses facial pain assessment (WBS).
Results: Based on the research of the Mann Whitney test results, a p value of 0.001<0.05 was obtained, there was an effect of lemon aromatherapy on the pain scale with a p value = 0.001. The application of Lemon aromatherapy can lower the pain scale through the endocrine and nervous systems. The limeone content contained in Lemon can inhibit the prostaglandin work system so that it can reduce pain. The fragrance produced by Lemon aromatherapy will stimulate the thalamus to secrete encephaline, serving as a natural painkiller.
Conclusion: Based on the results of research, the administration of lemon aromatherapy as a complementary therapy has an effect on reducing the pain scale of patients with cervical cancer.
