Abstract
Background: Hormonal balance disorders that occur in hormonal contraceptive users where these hormones are useful in inhibiting fertility can cause certain responses in the body. So when obstacles occur in the secretion of FSH and LH it can result in an imbalance of the two hormones and ultimately blood vessel disorders which are manifested by increased blood pressure.
Objective: To determine the relationship between the use of injectable contraceptives and increased blood pressure in the Anjir Serapat Community Health Center working area.
Methods : This type of research is a type of quantitative research. The sampling technique used was non-probability sampling using a purposive sampling method with a sample size of 90 respondents. The data collection technique used a questionnaire, and analyzed using the Chi-Square test.
Results: The majority of respondents who used the 3-month injectable contraceptive type were 60 people (66.7%) while the 1-month injectable contraceptive was 30 people (33.3%). The majority of respondents with hypertension status were 62 people (68.9%) while those with normal status were 28 people (31.1%) respondents. The test results in this study show a significant value of 0.024 which is smaller than 0.05 as a predetermined level (p < α) and it can be stated that Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. Statistically there is a significant relationship between the use of injectable contraception and an increase in blood pressure in the Anjir Serapat Community Health Center working area.
Conclusion: There is a relationship between the use of injectable contraceptives and increased blood pressure. For injectable birth control users, they should always monitor their blood pressure so they can maintain their health and reduce the risk of developing hypertension.
