Abstract

Background: Junk food contains a large amount of sodium which can increase blood volume in the body so that the heart has to pump blood stronger which causes higher blood pressure (hypertension).


Objective: To determine the relationship between consumption of fast food (junk food) and the incidence of gestational hypertension in the Gynecology Polyclinic at Pangeran Jaya Sumitra Hospital, Kotabaru District.


Method: Analytic survey research method with a cross sectional approach. The sample in this study were 38 pregnant women at the Gynecology Polyclinic in January 2023 at the Gynecology Polyclinic at Pangeran Jaya Sumitra Hospital, Kotabaru District. Data collection used a questionnaire which was analyzed in the form of a frequency distribution and Chi Square analysis test with a significance value of 95%.


Results: Most of the categories of mothers who consumed junk food were 22 people (57.9%) most of the mothers experienced gestational hypertension as many as 20 people (52.6%). There is a relationship between the consumption of fast food (junk food) and the incidence of gestational hypertension in the Gynecology Polyclinic of Pangeran Jaya Sumitra Hospital, Kotabaru Regency (p value = 0.000 <0.05).


Conclusion: Researchers concluded that consumption of fast food (junk food) is related to the incidence of gestational hypertension.
