E Effectiveness of lemon aromatherapy against nausea vomiting in pregnant women in the first trimester of emesis gravidarum in the working area of the Long Kali Health Center

Abstract

Background: nausea and vomiting is something that often occurs in pregnant women and its prevalence is quite large. Nausea, vomiting can cause health problems for the mother and cause severe dehydration and endanger the baby's condition, for this reason non-pharmacological treatment is needed, one of which is using lemon aromatherapy.


Objective: To determine the effectiveness of giving lemon aromatherapy against nausea and vomiting in pregnant women in the first trimester of Emesis Gravidarum in the Long Kali Community Health Center Working Area.


Method: quasi-experimental research method with a Two Group pretest and posttest approach. The research population of pregnant women in Trimester 1 in January 2024-February 2024 at Long Kali Community Health Center was 46 people, purposive sampling technique was 28 people. The instrument used was the PUQE-24 questionnaire. The data analysis technique uses univariate analysis with mean, standard deviation, minimum and maximum, bivariate analysis with the Wilcoxon test.


Results: Nausea and vomiting before being given lemon aromatherapy to pregnant women with first trimester emesis gravidarum in the Long Kali Community Health Center Working Area had an average score of 10.25 with a minimum score of 7 and a maximum score of 13, while after being given lemon aromatherapy to pregnant women with second trimester emesis gravidarum I in the Long Kali Community Health Center Working Area has an average score of 4.86 with a minimum score of 72 and a maximum score of 8. There is effectiveness of giving lemon aromatherapy for nausea and vomiting in pregnant women with first trimester emesis gravidarum in the Long Kali Community Health Center Working Area with a p value of 0.000.


Conclusion: lemon aromatherapy is effective in reducing nausea and vomiting in pregnant women with first trimester emesis gravidarum in the Long Kali Community Health Center Working Area
