Abstract

Diabetes mellitus type 2 is a disease with multifactorial causes, including the increasing burden of obesity in children, changes in eating patterns and physical activity. However, most people are not aware of these risk factors. This disease attacks all ages and increases in adolescents and adults. Long-term complications of diabetes include heart problems, nerve and kidney damage. Lack of knowledge is one of the causes of late treatment. This community service activity aims to provide early education to teenagers as an effort to prevent type 2 diabetes mellitus. The community service was carried out at Senior High School of 4 Jayapura on August 11, 2023 with a total of 87 students as participants. The activity started with filling out a pre-test questionnaire, presenting material about diabetes mellitus and closed with a post-test questionnaire. The results of socialization showed an increase in adolescent knowledge before and after education. The average knowledge score of adolescents before ecuation was 5.27 and increased to 5.51 after the education about diabetes mellitus. It is hoped that preventive efforts through IEC will have a positive impact on adolescents and prevent the risk of diabetes mellitus.
