Abstract
Hypertension is a chronic disease characterized by a persistent increase in blood pressure with systolic values equal to or more than 140 mmHg and/or diastolic blood pressure equal to or more than 90 mmHg. Hypertension results in increased morbidity and mortality rates. In 2017, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported that there were around 600 million people with hypertension worldwide, with around three million of them dying every year. The number of people suffering from hypertension is expected to increase to reach 1.15 billion by 2025. WHO also notes that 46% of adults are not aware that they suffer from hypertension, while 42% have been diagnosed and undergoing treatment. In Indonesia, the prevalence of hypertension increased to 34.1% in 2018, compared to 25.8% in 2013. Community service activities aim to increase knowledge about hypertension and be able to carry out complementary therapies in everyday life. The method of implementing the activities carried out was counseling regarding hypertension education and healthy lifestyles using leaflet media, then complementary therapy practices and blood pressure checking were given to the people of Sungai Bakung Village. Community outreach activities carried out in Sungai Bakung Village can increase community knowledge and motivation to carry out routine blood pressure checks and adopt a healthy lifestyle as well as carry out complementary therapy to lower blood pressure as a first-line treatment or a combination of drugs used.
