Promoting Adolescent Mental Health Through The "MENDIRI" Program To Enhance Mental Resilience In Coping With Stressors

Adolescence is a highly vulnerable phase to stress. In Indonesia, there are numerous cases related to adolescent mental health issues. One effort that can be undertaken to address this situation is by enhancing adolescent resilience to stressors, one of which is by gaining a deeper understanding of their personality type. Therefore, the MENDIRI activity aims to help adolescents recognize their personality type as a means to strengthen their resilience in facing stressors, particularly during school years. The MENDIRI activity is conducted using a health education approach. This program is carried out in a single session (one-day activity) and is divided into three stages. Stage 1 lasts for 25 minutes, during which students undergo a personality type assessment using the Personality Plus Test instrument. Stage 2 lasts for 15 minutes, where the personality test results are analyzed and categorized based on personality types. Stage 3 lasts for 45 minutes, during which students receive education regarding the strengths and weaknesses of each personality type. In this stage, students are also encouraged to engage in self-reflection to assess the relevance of each personality type's strengths and weaknesses to themselves. The MENDIRI activity involved 68 twelfth-grade students at SMKN 2 Jorong Pelaihari. Participants demonstrated enthusiasm throughout the session, especially during the self-reflection process regarding the relevance of their personality type. Based on the personality type test results, 66% of students were categorized as melancholic, 22% as phlegmatic, 7% as choleric, and 4% as sanguine. The MENDIRI activity has proven effective in helping adolescents, particularly within the school environment, to gain a deeper understanding of their personalities. This initiative allows students to identify their strengths and weaknesses, comprehend the tendencies that trigger stress based on their personality type, and develop more adaptive stress management and coping strategies.
